Aegis

Play as an ant-like alien accompanied by your mite sidekick as you try to save your planet from a sentient parasitic slime in this 3D poetic experience. As one of the planet’s last remaining guardians, you must explore its forested landscapes and keep hope in the harrowing fight against the slime.

The Brief

I worked on a team with 11 other artists, designers, programmers, and sound designers to create an immersive world & a story-driven experience.

My Role

Storyboards

After working with the design and art team and solidifying the storyline, I created illustrative storyboards that helped define the world, characters and look & feel.

Prop & Environment Design

During pre-production, I worked as an environment concept artist & illustrator. I helped establish the style, color palettes, shape language, and general look and feel of the environment. I also worked on concepting out assets and props.

3D Modeling & Texturing

During production, I moved into asset creation. I established a pipeline by creating high poly meshes in ZBrush and baking them onto low poly meshes using XNormal. Textures were created using 3D Coat, which offered a more stylized look to the diffuse maps.

VFX

I worked on creating the majority of the VFX for the game, which challenged me to research and understand Unreal's Cascade particle system. Creating VFX also pushed my skills in color theory, shape language, timing, and technical skills in general.
